Farmer Rachel believes in a world where humans live in harmony with the wild things of the Earth and with each other, where we take care of our neighbors and don’t waste the resources that the Earth gives us. At Winking Cat, we believe that if we take something from the Earth, we should give something back. The Earth can give us indescribable joy and we should accept it and nurture it. Rachel shares, “I was thinking about the Earth one day, many moons ago, when I ended up riding the Sammamish River Trail with a friend and saw a beautiful row of trees with farm land beyond. I remember thinking it looked like a paradise. It is.”
Winking Cat Acres is a tiny farm in Woodinville, WA located on the beautiful piece of land Rachel saw from her bike. Winking Cat Acres was created out of a desire to protect the beauty around us by cutting down on agricultural plastic, giving back to the land, and spreading the gospel of sustainable farming. Rachel worked on a farm last year and took the Viva Farms practicum course to have a chance at fulfilling her dream of having her own farm: to work on the same piece of land that feeds my soul. La agricultora Rachel cree en un mundo donde los seres humanos viven en armonía con las cosas silvestres de la Tierra y entre sí, donde cuidamos a nuestros vecinos y no desperdiciamos los recursos que la Tierra nos ofrece. En Winking Cat, creemos que si tomamos algo de la Tierra, debemos devolver algo a cambio. La Tierra puede brindarnos una alegría indescriptible, y debemos aceptarla y nutrirla. Rachel comparte: “Estaba pensando en la Tierra un día, hace muchas lunas, cuando terminé recorriendo en bicicleta el sendero Sammamish River Trail con una amiga y vi una hermosa hilera de árboles con tierras agrícolas más allá. Recuerdo que pensé que parecía un paraíso. Y lo es.”
Winking Cat Acres es una pequeña granja en Woodinville, WA, ubicada en ese hermoso terreno que Rachel vio desde su bicicleta. Winking Cat Acres nació del deseo de proteger la belleza que nos rodea, reduciendo el uso de plástico agrícola, devolviendo algo a la tierra y difundiendo el mensaje de la agricultura sostenible. Rachel trabajó en una granja el año pasado y tomó el curso Practicum de Viva Farms para tener la oportunidad de cumplir su sueño de tener su propia granja: trabajar en la misma tierra que alimenta su alma. ¡Y ahora el sueño se ha hecho realidad!
